Why Families in Colorado Choose The Puppy Lodge

We’re a family of nine, five girls, two boys, and two parents who’ve been doing this for over 13 years. Our kids don’t just live around the puppies. They’re in the whelping room, in the play yard, on the floor with puppies every day they’re born. By the time a puppy leaves our farm, it’s been held, played with, and loved on. These puppies are truly family raised, and we love what we do.

Our farm sits in the rolling hills of Central Ohio, and our kennel has been remodeled multiple times over the years to give our dogs the best environment possible. Heated tile floors in the winter. Geothermal cooling in the summer. Five acres of open space where our adult dogs run and play every day. We don’t cut corners on the stuff that matters.

We’re certified through the Purdue University Canine Care Program, and one of the few breeders in the country who can say that. Purdue’s veterinary team inspects our facilities, our breeding practices, and the way we raise our puppies. We’ve always exceeded their requirements. On top of that, our vet at Danville Veterinary Clinic comes to our kennel every week to check on our dogs.

Every puppy born here goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) between days 3 and 16. It’s a proven program that strengthens their cardiovascular system, builds stress tolerance, and improves immune response before they ever leave our care. All of our parent dogs are health and genetic tested, not just for common breed conditions but for coat traits, eye color, furnishings, and more. We know exactly what we’re producing and we stand behind every puppy.

What Comes With Every Puppy

When your puppy leaves The Puppy Lodge, they come with everything you need to start off right:

  • 3-year health guarantee
  • Current vaccinations and full deworming
  • Complete veterinary exam
  • Microchipped
  • Purina Pro Plan starter bag of the same food they’ve been eating here
  • A blanket with mom’s scent
  • Registration paperwork
  • Lifetime access to our family for questions, advice, and support

We don’t disappear after the sale. If you have a question regarding your puppy’s first night home, you can reach us whenever you want. We commonly communicate with new puppy families after they bring their puppy home to help them care for their new pet.

How Puppy Delivery Works To Colorado

Our flight nanny service is a great option for Colorado families. Your puppy flies in-cabin with a dedicated handler, never in cargo, and you meet them right at the gate at an airport near you. Ground transport is also available through climate-controlled pet delivery vans that bring your puppy straight to your door anywhere in the state. If you'd rather come to us, the drive from Colorado to our kennel in Ohio is roughly 18 to 25 hours depending on where you're located, or you can fly into Columbus, which is about an hour and a half from the farm.

Ground Transport

We utilize a puppy delivery service to deliver your puppy anywhere in the country by delivery van. These vans are climate-controlled and the puppies are well taken care of on their journey to your home in Colorado. This is our most popular option for delivering puppies and gives your puppy a safe and calm ride right to your home.

In Person Pickup

If you’re willing to make the trip, you can come right to our home and kennel and pick the puppy up yourself. This option lets you meet the puppy, their puppy parents, and see our kennel in person. We openly allow people to visit our kennel by appointment and let them see our breeding operation and see for themselves why we are a step above your average breeder.

Flight Nanny Delivery

You can have your puppy flown into a nearby commercial airport by a professional puppy flight nanny. Your puppy will sit right next to the flight nanny the entire flight and will never be stored with cargo or luggage. Just as with ground transport, your puppy will be actively cared for and looked after until you can pick them up at the airport. This option is more expensive but gets your puppy to you in the quickest time possible if you are across the country. See a full list of Colorado airports we can fly a puppy into below.

FAQs Of Colorado Families

Q:Which of your breeds do best in Colorado's dry, high-altitude climate?

A:Golden Retrievers are a natural fit here. They love cold weather, handle snow well, and keep up with the active hiking lifestyle a lot of Colorado families enjoy. Pomskies also thrive in cooler climates and do well with the dry air. Miniature Poodles are a smart pick for families at higher elevations since their curly coat insulates well and they adapt quickly to temperature changes. Fluffy French Bulldogs are primarily indoor companions, so altitude and dry air aren't much of a concern for them, and they're one of our most popular breeds for apartment and city living along the Front Range. Teddy Bears and Mini Doxiedoodles also do well as long as you're mindful of sun exposure during summer months, since Colorado's UV intensity is stronger than most states.

Q:Can I visit your facility before buying?

A:Absolutely, and we love when families make the trip. Visits are by appointment so we can give you our full attention. You'll meet the parent dogs, walk through the kennel, and spend real time with the puppies. It's one thing to see photos online, but holding a puppy and watching how it interacts with your kids is a completely different experience. If traveling isn't in the cards, we also offer virtual tours so you can see exactly how our puppies are raised before making a decision.

Q:What should I prepare before my puppy arrives in Colorado?

A:Colorado's dry air can be tough on a young puppy's skin and nose, so having a humidifier ready in whatever room they'll sleep in makes a real difference those first few weeks. Stock up on paw balm too, especially if your puppy is arriving in winter, because salt and ice melt on sidewalks can irritate new paw pads fast. Set up a first vet appointment within the first few days of arrival so your local vet can get a baseline at your specific altitude. And if you're above 7,000 feet, keep play sessions short the first week while your puppy adjusts to the thinner air.

Q:What makes The Puppy Lodge different from other breeders?

A:We've been raising puppies for over 13 years, and our family of eight is hands-on with every single litter from day one. Every puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation between days 3 and 16, which builds confidence and stress resilience you'll notice from the first week home. Our parent dogs are all health and genetic tested, and Danville Veterinary Clinic visits our kennel weekly from birth through adoption. We're Purdue University Canine Care Certified with a 3-year health guarantee that includes hip and elbow coverage. We hold ourselves to the highest standards so you can get the best puppy for your family.
