Why Families in Vermont Choose The Puppy Lodge

We’re a family of nine, five girls, two boys, and two parents who’ve been doing this for over 13 years. Our kids don’t just live around the puppies. They’re in the whelping room, in the play yard, on the floor with puppies every day they’re born. By the time a puppy leaves our farm, it’s been held, played with, and loved on. These puppies are truly family raised, and we love what we do.

Our farm sits in the rolling hills of Central Ohio, and our kennel has been remodeled multiple times over the years to give our dogs the best environment possible. Heated tile floors in the winter. Geothermal cooling in the summer. Five acres of open space where our adult dogs run and play every day. We don’t cut corners on the stuff that matters.

We’re certified through the Purdue University Canine Care Program, and one of the few breeders in the country who can say that. Purdue’s veterinary team inspects our facilities, our breeding practices, and the way we raise our puppies. We’ve always exceeded their requirements. On top of that, our vet at Danville Veterinary Clinic comes to our kennel every week to check on our dogs.

Every puppy born here goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) between days 3 and 16. It’s a proven program that strengthens their cardiovascular system, builds stress tolerance, and improves immune response before they ever leave our care. All of our parent dogs are health and genetic tested, not just for common breed conditions but for coat traits, eye color, furnishings, and more. We know exactly what we’re producing and we stand behind every puppy.

What Comes With Every Puppy

When your puppy leaves The Puppy Lodge, they come with everything you need to start off right:

  • 3-year health guarantee
  • Current vaccinations and full deworming
  • Complete veterinary exam
  • Microchipped
  • Purina Pro Plan starter bag of the same food they’ve been eating here
  • A blanket with mom’s scent
  • Registration paperwork
  • Lifetime access to our family for questions, advice, and support

We don’t disappear after the sale. If you have a question regarding your puppy’s first night home, you can reach us whenever you want. We commonly communicate with new puppy families after they bring their puppy home to help them care for their new pet.

How Puppy Delivery Works To Vermont

Ground transport is a great option for Vermont families. Our climate-controlled delivery vans bring your puppy right to your door anywhere in the state. You're also welcome to drive to our farm in Ohio, which is roughly 9 to 12 hours depending on where you are in Vermont. Some families fly into Columbus, which is about an hour and a half from the farm, and make a quick trip out of it. Flight nanny service is available too, with your puppy flying in-cabin alongside a dedicated handler into an airport near you. You'd just meet the nanny at your local airport.

Ground Transport

We utilize a puppy delivery service to deliver your puppy anywhere in the country by delivery van. These vans are climate-controlled and the puppies are well taken care of on their journey to your home in Vermont. This is our most popular option for delivering puppies and gives your puppy a safe and calm ride right to your home.

In Person Pickup

If you’re willing to make the trip, you can come right to our home and kennel and pick the puppy up yourself. This option lets you meet the puppy, their puppy parents, and see our kennel in person. We openly allow people to visit our kennel by appointment and let them see our breeding operation and see for themselves why we are a step above your average breeder.

Flight Nanny Delivery

You can have your puppy flown into a nearby commercial airport by a professional puppy flight nanny. Your puppy will sit right next to the flight nanny the entire flight and will never be stored with cargo or luggage. Just as with ground transport, your puppy will be actively cared for and looked after until you can pick them up at the airport. This option is more expensive but gets your puppy to you in the quickest time possible if you are across the country. See a full list of Vermont airports we can fly a puppy into below.

FAQs Of Vermont Families

Q:Which breeds do well in Vermont's cold winters?

A:Vermont winters don't mess around, so picking a breed that handles the cold matters. Golden Retrievers and Pomskies are built for it. Both have thick double coats that keep them comfortable even when the temperature drops well below freezing. Miniature Poodles also do surprisingly well in cooler climates, especially with a simple trim adjustment for winter months. Fluffy French Bulldogs are a popular pick for Vermont families too, since they're primarily indoor companions and do just fine in any climate as long as you keep those walks shorter on the coldest days. Mini Dachshunds and Teddy Bears round things out nicely for families who want a smaller dog that spends most of its time inside by the woodstove.

Q:Can I visit your facility before buying?

A:Absolutely, and we love when families make the trip. Visits are by appointment so we can give you our full attention. You'll meet the parent dogs, walk through the kennel, and spend real time with the puppies. It's one thing to see photos online, but holding a puppy and watching how it interacts with your kids is a completely different experience. If traveling isn't in the cards, we also offer virtual tours so you can see exactly how our puppies are raised before making a decision.

Q:What should I prepare before my puppy arrives in Vermont?

A:Vermont's cold weather means a little prep goes a long way. Have a warm, draft-free spot set up inside before your puppy gets home, and grab a few puppy-safe jackets or sweaters for those first outdoor trips, especially if you're bringing home a smaller breed. Stock up on paw balm or booties early, because road salt and ice can irritate young paw pads fast. Schedule a vet visit within the first week, and plan your outdoor potty routine around the weather. Short, frequent trips outside work better than long ones when the windchill is brutal.

Q:What makes The Puppy Lodge different from other breeders?

A:We've been raising puppies for over 13 years, and our family of eight is hands-on with every single litter from day one. Every puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation between days 3 and 16, which builds confidence and stress resilience you'll notice from the first week home. Our parent dogs are all health and genetic tested, and Danville Veterinary Clinic visits our kennel weekly from birth through adoption. We're Purdue University Canine Care Certified with a 3-year health guarantee that includes hip and elbow coverage. We hold ourselves to the highest standards so you can get the best puppy for your family.
