Teddy Bear Puppies for Sale in California

Our Teddy Bear puppies for sale in California come from The Puppy Lodge, a family run program based on a five acre farm in Fresno, Ohio. Teddy Bears are a Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise cross, usually 8 to 15 pounds grown, with a plush wavy coat and the round face and dark button eyes the name comes from. They are gentle, quiet for a small breed, and happy to sit with you for as long as you will let them.

California sits about 2,000 miles west of us, so nearly every family here has their puppy flown in with a nanny or driven out by climate controlled van. Both are arranged after you reserve, and we handle the scheduling.

Delivery to California: Flight Nanny, Ground Transport, and Farm Pickup

Flight nanny. This is what we suggest for almost every California family. A trained handler carries your puppy in the cabin beside them on a commercial flight, never in cargo, and hands the puppy to you at baggage claim. Most of these trips finish the same day they start. We fly into all of the usual arrival points, including LAX, San Francisco International, San Diego International, Sacramento International, John Wayne in Orange County, and Fresno Yosemite International. The price is quoted per flight since it depends on the route and the day. Requirements are simple for this breed: the puppy has to be at least eight weeks and under 20 pounds with the carrier, which a Teddy Bear clears easily, and we arrange the health certificate before travel.

Home delivery by van. A professional transport service drives your puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, currently $450 flat to any California address. The puppy rides in its own carrier, gets a vet check before leaving, and you get updates along the way. Vans pull out of Ohio on Tuesday mornings, and a West Coast run takes two to three days depending on the route. That is a long stretch of road, which is why we lean toward the flight for anyone this far out, but plenty of families prefer having the puppy brought right to the door instead of driving to an airport.

Farm pickup. You are welcome to come get your puppy in person at the Ohio kennel by appointment. Only a handful of California families make that trip, but if you are already visiting the Midwest it is worth building in. You get to meet the mother, walk through the buildings, and go over the paperwork face to face.

One thing worth planning around in California: Teddy Bears have a slightly shortened muzzle from the Shih Tzu side, so they do not handle heat as well as a longer nosed dog. If you are in the Central Valley, the Inland Empire, or the desert in July or August, ask us to schedule an early morning handoff and bring water and a shaded carrier to the airport.

Teddy Bear Puppy Breeder Serving California Families

The Puppy Lodge has been raising dogs for over 13 years. All of our adult dogs belong to us and have been genetically tested and picked for temperament, health, pedigree, and coat and color genetics. Litters are raised across a closed group of local Ohio kennels that work only with our dogs and follow our health testing and breeding standards, with the vet from Danville Veterinary Clinic on site every week to check adults and newborns.

Being 2,000 miles away means we are not the closest option for a California family, so what matters is what happens before the puppy travels. Every Teddy Bear here runs the ENS protocol from day 3 through day 16, gets handled daily by our children, and starts potty and crate work before go home. Both parent breeds were bred purely as companions, which is why this cross bonds so hard and why separation anxiety can develop if alone time is not built in early. Early stress handling gives a puppy a head start on that, not a free pass. If you want the full picture on the breed first, read our guide to Teddy Bear puppies before you reserve.

Teddy Bear FAQs Of California Families

Q: What does a Teddy Bear puppy cost delivered to California?

A: Teddy Bears start at $1,995 and the price moves with color, coat type, and gender. Ground delivery to California is a flat $450, and flight nanny service is quoted per flight because it depends on the airport and date. The $200 deposit holds your puppy and applies to the total. Financing through Credova is available if you would rather pay over time.

Q: Can I see the puppy before I commit from across the country?

A: Yes. We set up FaceTime calls so you can see the puppy moving around, hear how it sounds, and ask questions before you put money down. Call or text 330-790-5007 and we will schedule one. If you happen to be traveling through Ohio, visits at the kennel are welcome by appointment.

Q: Are Teddy Bears a good fit for an apartment in Los Angeles or San Francisco?

A: They are one of the better small breeds for it. Adults stay around 9 to 12 inches tall and need only 20 to 30 minutes of activity a day, which a walk plus some indoor play covers. They are also quieter than most small dogs and will not bark through the day, though they will let you know when someone is at the door.

Q: How do they handle California allergies and shedding?

A: Not fully. No breed is. What the Teddy Bear coat does is keep hold of what it sheds rather than dropping it onto floors and furniture, so less dander ends up circulating. That difference is often enough for people with modest allergies and rarely enough for severe ones. Sensitivity comes down to the individual dog more than the breed, so spending time with the actual puppy is the only way to be certain.

Q: How much grooming does the coat need in a dry climate?

A: The coat keeps growing and will mat without upkeep no matter where you live. Brush several times a week with a slicker or pin brush, watching the ears, chest, and behind the legs where mats start, and book a professional groom every six to eight weeks. Trim the hair around the eyes regularly and wipe the area daily, since tear staining is common in this cross and is cosmetic rather than a health issue.

Q: What health issues should I know about?

A: Like a lot of small breeds, Teddy Bears can be prone to patellar luxation, dental crowding and dental disease, eye conditions like cataracts and dry eye, and allergies from the Bichon side. None of that is unique to this cross. We genetically test and health screen every parent dog on both breeds before a pairing, the vet examines each litter multiple times, and the written three year guarantee covers genetic and congenital conditions. Keeping the dog lean and brushing its teeth daily does more than anything else you can control at home.
