Teddy Bear Puppies for Sale in Florida

Families looking at Teddy Bear puppies for sale in Florida are working with an Ohio breeder, and that matters less than it sounds like it should. The Puppy Lodge sits on a five acre farm in Fresno, Ohio, and puppies reach Florida homes by climate controlled van or by flight nanny into the state's larger airports. Nobody has to make the drive.

Teddy Bears are a Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise cross, usually 8 to 15 pounds full grown, with a plush wavy coat that sheds very little. They are calm, they like company, and they settle into condos and smaller homes as easily as they settle into a house with a yard. If you want the full picture on the breed before you start looking, read our complete guide to Teddy Bear puppies.

Teddy Bear Puppy Delivery to Florida

Florida sits roughly 12 hours from our farm at the Georgia line and closer to 19 hours down by Miami, so the option that fits your family depends a lot on where in the state you live.

Home delivery by van. This is the option most Florida families pick. A professional pet transport service drives your puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a vet check before the trip, and updates along the way. The current rate for Florida is $350, flat wherever you are in the state. Ground runs leave on Tuesday mornings, and Florida routes usually take two to three days depending on where the driver is headed after the state line. Most families have their puppy in hand within about three days of scheduling.

Flight nanny. If you are in South Florida and would rather not wait out a multi day drive, a flight nanny brings the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight and hands it to you at baggage claim. Most of these are done same day. Nannies fly into Miami International, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International, Orlando International, Tampa International, Jacksonville International, and Southwest Florida International in Fort Myers. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed vet. Teddy Bears clear that weight limit without any trouble. This costs more than ground and is quoted per flight, since airfare moves around. Summer storms can push a flight, so a little schedule flexibility helps.

Pickup at the farm. You are welcome to come get your puppy in Fresno by appointment. You can meet the mother, walk through the kennel, and go over the health records in person. For a Florida family that means two long days on I-75 each way, so it makes sense mostly for people already heading north.

Whichever way your puppy travels, it is never put in cargo. That matters more for this breed than for most. Teddy Bears inherit a slightly shortened muzzle from the Shih Tzu side, which makes heat and stuffy air harder on them, so the van stays climate controlled and the nanny keeps the puppy in the cabin under the seat. If you are on the Gulf Coast or anywhere south of Orlando in July or August, plan on an early morning handoff and a cool car ready to go.

Teddy Bear Puppy Breeder Serving Florida Families

The Puppy Lodge is a family business run by the Nisley family in Coshocton County, Ohio, and we have been raising dogs for more than 13 years. We own every parent dog. Litters are raised across a small closed network of local kennels near the farm by breeders who work only with our dogs and follow the same health testing, genetic testing, and breeding standards we hold ourselves to. No puppy comes from anywhere else.

A Florida family could find a small breeder an hour away, and some of them do good work. What is harder to find locally is a program with both parent breeds genetically tested and health screened before a pairing, a vet from Danville Veterinary Clinic on site every week checking adults and newborns, and a three year written guarantee on genetic and congenital conditions behind it.

With Teddy Bears specifically, we watch a few things closely. Both parents are screened before a pairing because the Shih Tzu side can pass along knee and eye issues and the Bichon side can pass along allergy tendencies, and none of those are unique to this cross. They show up across a lot of small breeds. We also start every puppy on the ENS protocol from day three through day sixteen, which builds early stress tolerance, and the children in the family handle the puppies daily. Teddy Bears bond hard and can develop separation anxiety if alone time is not built in early, so that early handling and the crate work we start before go home gives you a head start on it. Potty training is underway too, though a small bladder means frequent trips for the first few weeks regardless.

Teddy Bear FAQs Of Florida Families

Q: Are Teddy Bears a good fit for a Florida condo or apartment?

A: Yes, and it is one of the better matches in our program. They top out around 9 to 12 inches and 8 to 15 pounds, they need only 20 to 30 minutes of activity a day, and they are quieter than most small breeds. They will bark at the door and then stop. Most Florida HOA and condo weight limits are well above their adult size, but check your community's pet rules before you reserve.

Q: How do Teddy Bears handle Florida heat?

A: They need more shade and more breaks than a longer muzzled dog. The Shih Tzu side leaves them mildly brachycephalic, which means hot humid air is harder work for them. Walk early morning or after sunset in summer, keep water close, and skip the midday pavement. Indoors with air conditioning they are perfectly comfortable, which is where they would rather be anyway.

Q: Does the coat need less grooming in a warm climate?

A: No, the schedule is the same. The coat keeps growing and mats without upkeep, so plan on brushing several times a week and a professional groom every six to eight weeks. Many Florida owners go with a shorter puppy cut, which keeps the rounded teddy bear face, cuts brushing time, and is a little more comfortable in August. Florida humidity also means the floppy ears need a weekly check, since trapped moisture is what leads to ear infections.

Q: Are Teddy Bears hypoallergenic?

A: No breed truly is, whatever you read. The coat sheds very little and holds loose hair rather than dropping it, so less dander ends up circulating through the house. For people with mild to moderate allergies that is often enough. For severe allergies it frequently is not. Florida humidity does keep more dander settled than a dry climate would, which sometimes works in your favor. The only real test is time with the actual puppy, and we can arrange a FaceTime call or an in-person visit first.

Q: What happens if my puppy develops a health problem after delivery?

A: Every puppy comes with a written three year health guarantee covering genetic and congenital conditions. It travels with the puppy to Florida the same as the vaccine records and microchip registration. Call or text us at 330-790-5007 if something comes up and we will walk through it with you.

Q: Can I see the puppy before it flies or ships to Florida?

A: Yes. We do FaceTime calls before you reserve and before delivery, so you can see the puppy moving around rather than working off photos. Families who want to come to Ohio are welcome by appointment and can meet the mother while they are here. The father is sometimes not on site if an outside stud was used.
