Teddy Bear Puppies for Sale in Michigan

Families looking at Teddy Bear puppies for sale in Michigan are usually after the same thing: a small, plush, gentle dog that wants to be in the room with everybody. That is the Shichon, a Shih Tzu crossed with a Bichon Frise, and it is one of the calmest companion breeds we raise. They finish between 8 and 15 pounds, carry a wavy coat that sheds very little, and settle just as well into a Grand Rapids condo as a house outside Ann Arbor.

We are in Fresno, Ohio, which puts the Michigan state line about three hours from our door and Detroit around four. Grand Rapids and Lansing sit in the middle of the state, and the Upper Peninsula runs closer to eleven. Almost every Michigan family has a short, easy option for getting their puppy home.

Each one goes home at eight weeks or older with a three-year written health guarantee, a vet exam from Danville Veterinary Clinic, microchip registration, current vaccinations and dewormings, registration paperwork, a bag of the food it has been eating, and a blanket that smells like its mother. Financing is available through Credova, and we do FaceTime calls if you want to see a puppy move around before you commit. We deliver to every part of Michigan, and we sort out how once the puppy is yours.

Puppy Delivery to Michigan

After you reserve, we call you and pick the method together. Michigan families have three.

Pickup at the farm. You drive to Fresno, Ohio, meet the puppy's mother, walk the kennel, and go over the health records and microchip paperwork in person before you leave with your puppy. From Toledo it is barely two and a half hours, and from Detroit or Ann Arbor it is a comfortable half-day round trip down US-23 and I-71. If you live anywhere in the southern third of Michigan, this is the option we point you to first. Appointments Monday through Saturday.

Ground delivery. A professional transport service drives the puppy to your door in a climate-controlled van with an individual carrier, a pre-transport vet check, and updates along the way. Michigan is in our regional tier, currently $350 flat for any address in the state. Vans leave Tuesday mornings, and Michigan is close enough that most runs are next-day. Detroit, Lansing, and Kalamazoo are typically a single day out. The Upper Peninsula takes longer because of the drive up and over the bridge, so plan on two days if you are in Marquette or Escanaba.

Flight nanny. A handler carries the puppy in the cabin next to her, never in cargo, and meets you at baggage claim. Most flights finish same-day. We fly into Detroit Metropolitan (DTW), Gerald R. Ford International in Grand Rapids (GRR), Bishop International in Flint, Capital Region in Lansing, Cherry Capital in Traverse City, and Sawyer International in the Upper Peninsula. Flight nanny is quoted per route and costs more than ground, and it makes the most sense for northern Michigan and the U.P., where a drive would take most of two days. A grown Teddy Bear stays well under the 20-pound cabin limit, and because it rides in the cabin the shorter Shih Tzu muzzle is never a problem the way it can be for snub-nosed dogs in cargo. We arrange the health certificate before travel.

Teddy Bear Puppy Breeder Serving Michigan

The Puppy Lodge has been raising dogs for over thirteen years from a five-acre farm in the hills of Coshocton County. The Nisley family owns every parent dog, and litters are raised across a small closed network of kennels near us that work only with our dogs and follow our health testing, genetic testing, and breeding standards. Nothing comes in from outside that network.

For Teddy Bears specifically, both sides of the pairing are genetically tested and health screened before we breed, since the Shih Tzu and the Bichon each bring their own things to watch for. Knees, eyes, and skin are all part of that. Structure factors into which dogs we pair. Our vet from Danville Veterinary Clinic comes to the kennel weekly and sees the adults and the newborn litters on a set schedule.

Every Teddy Bear puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation from day three through day sixteen, then spends the next several weeks being handled and played with by our kids and around other dogs. That matters more for this breed than most. Teddy Bears bond hard and can develop separation anxiety if alone time is never built in, so an early start on stress tolerance and crate work gives you something to build on. Potty and crate training begin before go-home.

Being four hours from Detroit instead of forty minutes is a fair thing to weigh. What you get for the drive is a program where the parents are known and tested, where the same people raise every litter to the same standard, and where a three-year written guarantee backs it up. If you want to see all of it first, come out. Visitors are welcome by appointment, and plenty of Michigan families make the trip. Our complete guide to Teddy Bear puppies covers the breed in more depth if you are still deciding.

Teddy Bear FAQs Of Michigan Families

Q: How much is a Teddy Bear puppy in Michigan?

A: Teddy Bear puppies start at $1,995 and the price moves with color, coat type, and gender. Ground delivery anywhere in Michigan is a flat $350, or you can pick up in Ohio at no delivery cost. The deposit is $200, non-refundable but transferable to another available puppy, and Credova financing is available if you would rather spread it out.

Q: Do Teddy Bears handle Michigan winters?

A: They do fine. The coat is medium length and plush, and most owners keep it a little longer through winter for that reason. What you want to watch is the salt on sidewalks and packed snow between the toes, so wipe the paws after walks and keep the hair between the pads trimmed. Their exercise need is only 20 to 30 minutes a day, and indoor play and puzzle toys count toward it, which makes January much easier than it would be with a sporting breed.

Q: Are Teddy Bears good for apartments in Detroit or Grand Rapids?

A: Very good. They top out around 12 inches, they are quieter than most small breeds, and they will announce someone at the door without barking all day. Low exercise needs and a body built for indoor life make them one of the better apartment and condo dogs we raise. The one thing to plan for is a puppy that wants to follow you room to room, so a crate routine from the first week helps in a small space.

Q: Do Teddy Bears shed?

A: Very little. Loose hair gets caught in the coat instead of falling on your floor, which means less dander moving through the house and a decent fit for a lot of allergy households, though no dog is completely free of allergens and severe allergies are a different question. The trade is grooming. Brush several times a week with a slicker or pin brush, plan on a professional groom every six to eight weeks, and trim the hair around the eyes so it does not irritate them.

Q: What health problems should I know about?

A: The ones worth knowing are patellar luxation, dental crowding from the shorter muzzle, allergies, and eye conditions like cataracts and dry eye. Most of these turn up across a lot of small breeds rather than being unique to this cross. Every parent dog we breed is genetically tested and health screened first, the vet examines each litter multiple times, and the three-year guarantee covers genetic and congenital conditions. Keeping the dog lean and brushing its teeth daily from puppyhood does more than anything else you can do at home.

Q: Can I visit the kennel before I decide?

A: Yes, and Michigan families do it often. Visits are by appointment Monday through Saturday, and you can meet the puppy and its mother while you are there. The father is sometimes not on site if an outside stud was used. If the drive is too much right now, we will do a FaceTime call instead. Call or text 330-790-5007 with any questions about a specific puppy or an upcoming litter.
