About Fluffy French Bulldogs
The Fluffy French Bulldog is a rare variation of the standard French Bulldog, also known as a Fluffy Frenchie or Long Haired French Bulldog. They are 100 percent purebred French Bulldogs with the same build, personality, and bat ears the breed is famous for. The only difference is their coat. While standard Frenchies have short, smooth fur, the Fluffy carries a naturally occurring recessive gene called the Long Hair gene, or LH gene, which produces a softer, medium length coat that is most noticeable around the ears, chest, and neck. For a puppy to have this fluffy coat, both parents must carry the LH gene. If only one parent carries it, the puppy will have a standard short coat but may pass the gene on to future generations. The French Bulldog breed originated in the mid 1800s from Toy Bulldogs brought to France by English lace workers and quickly became a favorite among Parisian society before making its way to America. Today the French Bulldog is recognized by the AKC in the Non-Sporting Group and is consistently one of the most popular breeds in the country.
