A:Iowa's big temperature swings actually work fine for most of our breeds. Golden Retrievers and Pomskies have coats built for cold weather and handle winter without a problem. Miniature Dachshunds and Mini Doxiedoodles do great with a warm coat for outdoor trips in January, and they love curling up inside when the wind picks up. Fluffy French Bulldogs are primarily indoor companions, so Iowa's climate is a non-issue for them. They're happy in a house or apartment as long as you keep summer walks to cooler parts of the day. Miniature Poodles adapt well to both seasons and are easy to groom for whatever the weather throws at you.

A:Absolutely, and we love when families make the trip. Visits are by appointment so we can give you our full attention. You'll meet the parent dogs, walk through the kennel, and spend real time with the puppies. It's one thing to see photos online, but holding a puppy and watching how it interacts with your kids is a completely different experience. If traveling isn't in the cards, we also offer virtual tours so you can see exactly how our puppies are raised before making a decision.

A:Iowa winters can be harsh, so if your puppy is coming home between November and March, have a plan for those first outdoor trips. A sheltered potty area close to the door makes housebreaking much easier when it's 10°F outside. Stock up on puppy-safe paw balm too, because road salt and ice can be rough on young pads. In summer, make sure you have shade and fresh water available in the yard. Schedule your first vet visit within the first week so your local veterinarian can pick up right where our vet left off.
