A Fluffy Frenchie Made for Iowa Life

A Fluffy Frenchie feels right at home in Iowa, whether that's a place in Des Moines, a college town like Iowa City or Ames, or a farmhouse out in the country. These are calm, friendly little dogs that don't need much space or a lot of running around, just a short walk and plenty of time at your side. That easygoing nature makes them as good a fit for an acreage as for a house in town.

What Makes a Fluffy Frenchie Special

Take a French Bulldog, give it a long, plush coat instead of the usual short one, and you have a Fluffy Frenchie. Everything people love about the breed is still there underneath: the smooshed face, the tall ears, and a devoted, comedic streak that wins families over fast. The long coat is carried by a single gene that has to come from both parents, and with so few breeders testing for it, real fluffies don't come along often. We test our dogs, so we can point out the fluffy pups in a litter right from birth.

Getting Your Puppy Home to Iowa

Our farm is in Ohio, a good drive east of Iowa, but getting your puppy home is easy. You have three ways to do it.

Flight nanny — a popular choice for Iowa families. A nanny flies with your puppy in the cabin into Des Moines International Airport (DSM) or The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) in Cedar Rapids. Your puppy is never shipped alone in cargo.

Ground delivery — a professional pet transport company drives your puppy right to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle, wherever you are in the state.

Farm pickup — you're always welcome to visit the farm by appointment, meet the parents, and take your puppy home yourself.

Raising a Frenchie Through Iowa's Seasons

Iowa serves up the full range of Midwestern weather, and both ends of the year ask for a little care with a Frenchie.

Winters are cold and snowy, and out here the wind has nothing to slow it down as it sweeps across open farmland, so the cold can feel even sharper than the number on the thermometer. A Frenchie's short coat isn't made for that, so dress them in a sweater or coat for winter outings, keep those outings brief when it's bitter, and let them warm up inside afterward. Happily, being an indoor dog suits a Frenchie perfectly.

Summers swing the other way, warm and often humid. Since a flat-faced dog struggles to cool itself in muggy air, save the walks for the cooler morning and evening hours during a hot spell, skip the midday heat, and always keep water handy.

In between, Iowa hands you gorgeous springs and falls, which are the easiest and most pleasant times to be out with your dog. A relaxed walk on the Des Moines River Trail or the Raccoon River Valley Trail is a fine way to spend a mild afternoon.

FAQs Of Iowa Families

Q:Are Fluffy Frenchies real French Bulldogs?

A:Yes, 100%. The only difference is the longer, soft coat that comes from one gene both parents carry.

Q:How much do Fluffy Frenchies cost?

A:Fluffies cost more than standard Frenchies because they're rare. Ours range from $2,800 to $6,000, depending on color and looks. Financing is available.

Q:Is my deposit refundable?

A:A $200 deposit holds your puppy. The deposit is non-refundable, because once you reserve a puppy, we take it off the market for other families. If something comes up, we'll work with you to move your deposit to another available puppy.

Q:Can a Frenchie handle cold Iowa winters?

A:Yes, they just need you looking out for them. Their thin coat means they lose heat fast, so gear them up before they go out and don't let a windy, sub-zero day turn into a long one. Indoors by the heat is right where they want to be anyway.

Q:Do Frenchies do okay in an Iowa farmhouse without close neighbors?

A:Absolutely. A Frenchie is a homebody that bonds closely to its family, so a quiet place in the country suits them well. They don't need a big yard or other dogs around, just your company and a daily walk.

Q:When can my puppy come home?

A:The earliest a puppy can go home is 8 weeks old. That gives them enough time with their mom and littermates to grow strong and start life confident.

Q:What comes with my puppy?

A:Every puppy goes home vet-checked, up to date on shots, dewormed, and microchipped, with health records, a small bag of the food they've been eating, and our written 3-year health guarantee.
