They're easygoing and affectionate, content to curl up through a long winter evening and just as happy to ride along to the cabin come summer. For a lot of families, that low-key, close-to-you nature is exactly the point.
What Makes a Fluffy Frenchie Special
The first thing people notice about a Fluffy Frenchie is the coat, longer and softer than a French Bulldog's usual short one. In every other way, it's the same flat-faced, big-eared, sweet-natured French Bulldog people have always loved. That long coat comes from a single gene both parents have to carry, and because so few breeders test for it, real fluffies are hard to find. We test our dogs, so we know which puppies in a litter will be fluffy before they're born.
Getting Your Puppy Home to Minnesota
Minnesota is a good distance northwest of our Ohio farm, but bringing your puppy home is straightforward, and we do it often. You have three ways to go about it.
Flight nanny — the option most Minnesota families pick. A nanny carries your puppy in the cabin the whole way, never in cargo, on a direct flight into Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP). For families up north, Duluth International Airport (DLH) works well too. It's a short, easy trip for the puppy.
Ground delivery — a professional pet transport company can drive your puppy right to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle, anywhere in Minnesota.
Farm pickup — you're always welcome to come meet the parents and take your puppy home yourself. You can drive in, or fly into one of three nearby airports and make a short trip out to the farm: Akron-Canton is about an hour and 20 minutes away, Columbus about an hour and a half, and Pittsburgh about two hours. Just set up a time with us first.
Keeping a Frenchie Warm in a Minnesota Winter
Minnesotans don't hide from winter. They skate on frozen lakes, drill holes in the ice to fish, and pull on a parka for the walk to work like it's nothing. Your Fluffy Frenchie, though, is the one member of the household that belongs indoors when the cold sets in.
Minnesota gets seriously, brutally cold. Deep snow, subzero nights, and wind chills that turn dangerous are all part of a normal winter, more so the farther north you go. A Frenchie is a small, flat-faced dog with a single-layer coat, however fluffy it looks, so that kind of cold reaches them quickly. When the temperature drops below zero, keep outdoor time to quick trips out and right back in. A snug winter coat helps on the milder days, wiping the salt and grit off their paws at the door keeps their feet from getting sore, and a humidifier takes the edge off the dry furnace air that runs all season.
Then summer comes, and Minnesota turns into one of the best places anywhere to have a dog. Warm, green, and ringed with lakes, it's the season for easy morning walks and long evenings outside. A slow lap of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes or a stroll along the Mississippi River in St. Paul is a fine way to spend a morning together. Just remember that even a Minnesota summer turns muggy at times, and those afternoons are best spent inside with the AC.
