A Fluffy Frenchie Made for South Dakota Life

From Sioux Falls on the eastern prairie to Rapid City up against the Black Hills, a Fluffy Frenchie fits easily into South Dakota life. These are calm, affectionate house dogs, content with a short walk and a soft place to nap, and just as happy riding shotgun on a trip out to see the Badlands. They don't need a lot of room or a lot of exercise, only your company and a comfortable spot indoors. For families who want an easygoing companion rather than a working ranch dog, a Frenchie is a natural fit.

What Makes a Fluffy Frenchie Special

The first time you see a Fluffy Frenchie, you might not recognize the breed, but it's a purebred French Bulldog, coat and all. What throws people is that coat, longer and silkier than the short one Frenchies usually have, and it comes down to a single gene both parents carry. Since most breeders don't test for that gene, true fluffies stay rare. We test our dogs, so we know which puppies in a litter will be fluffy before they're born.

Getting Your Puppy Home to South Dakota

South Dakota sits a long way west of our Ohio farm, but bringing your puppy home is straightforward, and we do it often. You have three ways to go about it.

Flight nanny — the option most South Dakota families pick. A nanny carries your puppy in the cabin the whole way, never in cargo, into Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD). For the western half of the state, Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) works well too. It's a short, easy trip for the puppy.

Ground delivery — a professional pet transport company can drive your puppy right to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle, anywhere in South Dakota.

Farm pickup — you're always welcome to come meet the parents and take your puppy home yourself. You can drive in, or fly into one of three nearby airports and make a short trip out to the farm: Akron-Canton is about an hour and 20 minutes away, Columbus about an hour and a half, and Pittsburgh about two hours. Just set up a time with us first.

Taking In South Dakota at a Frenchie's Pace

South Dakota is postcard country, from the granite faces of Mount Rushmore to the pine-covered Black Hills and the wild rock of the Badlands. It's tempting to picture a dog bounding up the trails with you, but that's not a Fluffy Frenchie. A flat-faced dog with a stocky build isn't made for long hikes or thin mountain air, and pushing them that way isn't safe or kind. What a Frenchie does beautifully is come along for the easy version: a slow stroll along the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls, a short walk to a scenic overlook, and a warm lap for the drive home.

The seasons here ask for a little planning. Winters are cold, colder still out on the open eastern plains, so in the depths of the season a Frenchie is an indoor dog, with a warm coat for quick trips outside and a humidifier to soften the dry indoor air. Summers can run hot, and the hottest afternoons are best kept for the shade or the air conditioning. Spring and fall are the sweet spot, cool and mild and made for showing your Frenchie the sights.

FAQs Of South Dakota Families

Q:Are Fluffy Frenchies real French Bulldogs?

A:Yes, 100%. The only difference is the longer, soft coat that comes from one gene both parents carry.

Q:How much do Fluffy Frenchies cost?

A:Fluffies cost more than standard Frenchies because they're rare. Ours range from $2,800 to $6,000, depending on color and looks. Financing is available.

Q:Is my deposit refundable?

A:A $200 deposit holds your puppy. The deposit is non-refundable, because once you reserve a puppy, we take it off the market for other families. If something comes up, we'll work with you to move your deposit to another available puppy.

Q:How does delivery to South Dakota work?

A:South Dakota is a good way from our Ohio farm, so most families choose a flight nanny, who flies with your puppy in the cabin, never in cargo, into Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD), or Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) for the western half of the state. A specialized pet transport service can also drive your puppy to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle, or you're welcome to pick up at the farm in person.

Q:Are Fluffy Frenchies good with kids?

A:Very. Frenchies are patient, affectionate, and sturdy enough to keep up with a busy, active household, which makes them a favorite with families. They love being in the middle of things, and their easygoing nature means they're rarely too much dog for a home with children. As with any breed, a little supervision with young kids goes a long way.

Q:When can my puppy come home?

A:The earliest a puppy can go home is 8 weeks old. That gives them enough time with their mom and littermates to grow strong and start life confident.

Q:What comes with my puppy?

A:Every puppy goes home vet-checked, up to date on shots, dewormed, and microchipped, with health records, a small bag of the food they've been eating, and our written 3-year health guarantee.
