Fluffy Frenchies are easygoing, affectionate little dogs that adapt to just about any Virginia household. They're right at home in a Northern Virginia townhouse, a place near the water in Virginia Beach, or a house in the Richmond suburbs. They don't need much space or exercise, just a short walk and plenty of lap time. For busy families and quiet ones alike, they're an easy fit.
What Makes a Fluffy Frenchie Special
Take a French Bulldog, give it a longer and softer coat, and you have a Fluffy Frenchie. Everything else is classic Frenchie, the squishy face, the upright ears, the big personality packed into a small, sturdy body. The fluffy coat traces back to one gene, and a puppy is only born fluffy if both parents carry it. Since most breeders don't test for that gene, real fluffies are hard to come by. We test our dogs, so we always know ahead of time which puppies in a litter will have the coat.
Getting Your Puppy Home to Virginia
Our farm is in Ohio, a manageable trip from most of Virginia, and we've made bringing your puppy home simple. You have three ways to do it.
Ground delivery — a professional pet transport company drives your puppy right to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle, anywhere in the state, from the coast to the far side of the Blue Ridge.
Flight nanny — for a faster trip, a nanny flies with your puppy in the cabin to a major Virginia airport, like Richmond International Airport (RIC), Norfolk International Airport (ORF), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), or Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Your puppy is never shipped alone in cargo.
Farm pickup — you're always welcome to visit the farm by appointment, meet the parents, and take your puppy home yourself. If you're in western Virginia, we're closer than you might think.
Raising a Frenchie Around Virginia
Virginia hands you a bit of everything, from Atlantic beaches to mountain ridges, and the weather shifts as you move across the state.
Down in Hampton Roads, around Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake, summers are warm and humid and winters are mild, with snow a rare event. Humidity is the thing to watch here, because it wears on a flat-faced dog faster than dry heat does. Save the walks for early morning or evening, and let the AC handle the muggy afternoons.
Up north, in the Arlington and Alexandria area outside D.C., winters have more bite and bring some snow, so a Frenchie will want a sweater on cold days. And out west toward Roanoke and the Blue Ridge, the mountains bring a colder, snowier winter still.
Across the whole state, a few basics cover it:
- On hot, humid days, walk when it's cool and keep water within reach.
- On cold or snowy days, bundle your Frenchie up and wipe salt off their paws afterward.
- Never leave your dog in a parked car, in summer heat or winter cold.
There's good dog territory at both ends of the state. Down in Hampton, Buckroe Beach lets a Frenchie pad around on the sand, and up in Arlington, the Shirlington Dog Park draws a crowd of locals and their dogs most weekends.
