A:Kentucky's weather swings from humid 90°F summers to below-freezing winters, so you want a breed that handles both. Golden Retrievers do great here. Their double coat insulates in winter and they love being outside on cooler spring and fall days, though they'll need shade and water in July and August. Miniature Poodles and Teddy Bears adapt easily to the temperature changes and are comfortable indoors or out. Fluffy French Bulldogs are a fantastic choice too since they're primarily indoor companions and do well in any climate as long as you limit heavy outdoor time during peak summer heat. Miniature Dachshunds and Mini Doxiedoodles also thrive in Kentucky homes, especially for families who want a smaller dog that's happy on a couch or a short walk around the yard.

A:Absolutely, and we love when families make the trip. Visits are by appointment so we can give you our full attention. You'll meet the parent dogs, walk through the kennel, and spend real time with the puppies. It's one thing to see photos online, but holding a puppy and watching how it interacts with your kids is a completely different experience. If traveling isn't in the cards, we also offer virtual tours so you can see exactly how our puppies are raised before making a decision.

A:Pickup day is one of our favorite parts of this whole thing. You'll spend time with the litter, and your puppy will already know your voice and scent from the blanket we send home. Before you leave, we walk you through the go-home kit, which includes everything your puppy needs for the first few weeks. For the car ride back, bring a small crate or a travel carrier, a couple of towels, and plan a stop or two for bathroom breaks. Puppies usually sleep most of the ride home, especially with the blanket that carries mom's scent.

A:Kentucky is right next door, 3 to 5 hours from most of the state, so we're about as local a breeder as you'll find without staying inside your own borders. Come see it. We're a family of nine, five girls, two boys, and two parents, on five acres in the rolling hills of Central Ohio, and we've been raising puppies here for more than 13 years. Our kids are in the whelping room and the play yard every day, so puppies are handled constantly from birth. The kennel has heated tile floors in winter and geothermal cooling in summer and has been remodeled multiple times because the environment our dogs live in is not where you cut corners. We're certified through the Purdue University Canine Care Program, one of the few breeders in the country to hold that certification, and our vet from Danville Veterinary Clinic is at our kennel weekly. Every puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation between days 3 and 16, and every parent dog is health and genetic tested.
