Golden Retriever Puppies for Sale in Virginia

Families looking for Golden Retriever puppies for sale in Virginia can bring one home from The Puppy Lodge, where we raise Goldens in east central Ohio from parent dogs we own and health test. Our puppies are friendly, patient, and quick to learn, and they are handled and played with every day before they leave. That early start helps them settle in with kids, other pets, and a busy household.

Virginia sits about 5 to 9 hours from our kennel. The Shenandoah Valley and the southwest corner of the state are the closest, while Richmond and Hampton Roads are at the far end of that drive. Most families here have their puppy delivered right to the door.

Available Golden Retriever Puppies for Virginia Families

The Golden Retriever puppies listed below can be reserved and paid for online. Prices start at $1,995 and vary by color and gender. A $200 deposit holds your puppy. It is non-refundable, but it can be moved to another available puppy if your plans change.

We don't keep a waitlist, so puppies go first come, first served, and a listed puppy can be reserved by someone else the same day. You can also claim a pick from an upcoming litter, set up a FaceTime call to see a puppy first, or apply for financing through Credova. If nothing is listed when you check, our newsletter will let you know when the next litter is ready. After you reserve, we call to set up delivery to your home in Virginia. You can always see the latest puppies on our Golden Retriever puppies page.

Golden Retriever Puppy Delivery to Virginia

We have three ways to get your puppy home, and we choose the best one together on a call after you reserve. Every puppy travels with a bag of the food it is eating now and a blanket that carries its mother's scent, so the first few nights feel a little more familiar.

Home Delivery by Ground

Home delivery is our most popular option, and it is the one we recommend for most Virginia families. A professional pet transporter drives your puppy to your door in a climate-controlled van, with the puppy in its own carrier. Each puppy has a vet check before the trip, and you get updates while it is on the road. Ground deliveries leave Ohio on Tuesday mornings, and Virginia is on the East Coast route, so most puppies arrive the next day. The flat fee for Virginia is around $350. This option makes the most sense for families in Northern Virginia, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Hampton Roads, where a round trip to Ohio would take up most of a weekend.

Pickup at Our Ohio Kennel

You are welcome to drive up by appointment and pick up your puppy yourself. While you are here you can meet the mother, see where the puppies are raised, and go over vaccination records, the microchip, and the health guarantee in person. For families near Winchester, Harrisonburg, or out along I-77 and I-81 in the southwest, the trip is around five to six hours each way. That is a long day but a workable one if you would like to see everything firsthand.

Flight Nanny

A trained handler can fly your puppy to a nearby airport in the cabin, tucked under the seat in a soft carrier and never placed in cargo. The handler meets you at baggage claim, and most of these deliveries are done the same day. Virginia families usually fly into Washington Dulles, Reagan National, Richmond International, Norfolk International, or Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional. This option costs more than ground delivery and is quoted per flight. A puppy has to be at least 8 weeks old and under 20 pounds with its carrier, and Golden puppies grow fast, so flight nanny works best for a younger puppy close to go-home age. Since ground delivery already reaches most of Virginia by the next day, most families only choose this when they need a specific date.

About Our Golden Retriever Breeder Serving Virginia

The Puppy Lodge is owned by the Nisley family, and we have raised dogs for more than 13 years from our five-acre farm in Fresno, Ohio. Our Goldens are raised by a small, closed group of local breeders who work only with Puppy Lodge dogs and follow our health testing and care standards. We own the parent dogs, and both parents of every Golden litter are health and genetically tested, including hip and elbow evaluations. Goldens are a large breed with known joint risk, so we also weigh structure when we plan each pairing.

Our puppies go through the Super Dog early neurological stimulation program from day 3 to day 16. Goldens keep growing until about 18 to 24 months, so our puppies get outdoor activity every day to build lean muscle and strong joints. Our vet also visits the kennel weekly and checks each litter more than once before go-home. Virginia families have Golden breeders closer to home, but many decide the extra distance is worth it for this kind of care, especially when the puppy is delivered to their door the next day.

FAQs Of Virginia Families Adopting Golden Retrievers

Q: How does a Golden Retriever handle Virginia summers?

A: Goldens have a thick double coat, and summers in Richmond and Hampton Roads get hot and humid. Plan walks and play for early morning or evening, and keep fresh water and shade available when your dog is outside. Swimming is one of the best ways to keep a Golden active on hot days.

Q: Where can we hike or swim with a Golden in Virginia?

A: Shenandoah National Park allows leashed dogs on most of its trails, which makes it a great spot for a Golden that needs a long outing. Virginia also has plenty of lakes and rivers, and most Goldens love the water. Just remember that Goldens need 60 to 90 minutes of exercise every day, so a weekend hike works best on top of daily walks and play, not in place of them.

Q: Is a Golden Retriever a good fit if we commute to work?

A: It can be, but it takes planning. Goldens are very people focused, and long stretches alone are hard on them, so families with long commutes, like many in Northern Virginia, should plan on doggy daycare, a dog walker, or a midday visit. We start crate training before go-home, which gives your puppy a head start on learning to spend time alone.

Q: How much do Golden Retrievers shed?

A: A lot, and all year long. Shedding picks up even more in the spring and fall. Brushing two to three times a week, and daily during heavy shedding, keeps it under control and helps you spot skin problems early. Our complete guide to Golden Retrievers covers grooming, training, and exercise in more detail.

Q: What health guarantee comes with a Golden Retriever puppy?

A: Every puppy comes with a written three-year health guarantee that covers genetic and congenital conditions, including hip and elbow. Parent testing lowers the chances of many conditions common in Goldens, but it does not rule them out, and that is especially true of cancer. Each puppy also goes home vet checked, microchipped, and current on vaccinations and dewormings, and Golden puppies can be registered with the AKC.
