Golden Retriever Puppies for Sale in West Virginia

Families searching for Golden Retriever puppies for sale in West Virginia can find them at The Puppy Lodge, just across the Ohio River in Fresno, Ohio. Our Goldens come from parent dogs we own and health test, and every puppy is vet checked, microchipped, and backed by a written three-year health guarantee.

West Virginia sits right next door to us. The Northern Panhandle is only about two hours from the kennel, and even the far southern and eastern corners of the state are around six hours away. That makes West Virginia one of the easiest states for families to drive over and bring a puppy home themselves.

Available Golden Retriever Puppies for West Virginia Families

The Golden Retriever puppies shown below are ready to reserve right on our website. Prices start at $1,995 and change with color, coat, and gender. A $200 deposit holds your puppy. It is non-refundable, but you can move it to another available puppy if your plans change.

We don't keep a waitlist, so puppies go to the first family that reserves them, sometimes on the same day they're listed. You can also claim a pick from an upcoming litter before the puppies are born. Financing is available through Credova, and we're happy to set up a FaceTime call so you can see a puppy before you commit. Once you reserve, we'll plan pickup or delivery to your home in West Virginia. If nothing is listed right now, our newsletter is the first place new Golden litters are announced.

Golden Retriever Delivery and Pickup Options for West Virginia

We work out how your puppy gets home on a phone call after you reserve. West Virginia families have three choices, and because the state is so close, pickup is usually the one we suggest.

Picking Up at Our Ohio Kennel

For most of West Virginia, driving to the kennel is the simplest option. Wheeling and Parkersburg are a short trip up the river, and Morgantown, Charleston, and Huntington make for a comfortable day trip. Pickups are by appointment, Monday through Saturday.

When you arrive you can meet your puppy's mother and see where the litter was raised. We'll go through the vaccination records, microchip registration, and health guarantee with you in person. You'll leave with a bag of the food your puppy is eating now and a blanket that carries its mother's scent.

Home Delivery by Ground

If the drive doesn't fit your schedule, a professional pet transport service can bring your Golden right to your door in a climate-controlled van. West Virginia is in our regional tier, so home delivery is around $350. Your puppy rides in its own carrier, gets a vet check before the trip, and you'll get updates along the way.

Ground deliveries leave Fresno on Tuesday mornings. With West Virginia this close, the time your puppy spends on the road is short. This option makes the most sense for families in the Eastern Panhandle or the southern counties, where a round trip to our kennel could take most of a day.

Flight Nanny

A trained handler can also fly with your puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight, never in cargo, and meet you at baggage claim. Most flights finish the same day. In West Virginia the usual airports are West Virginia International Yeager Airport in Charleston, Huntington Tri-State Airport, and North Central West Virginia Airport near Bridgeport. Some northern families find Pittsburgh International easier, and Eastern Panhandle families often use Washington Dulles.

This option is quoted per flight and costs more than ground delivery, so given the short distance most West Virginia families don't need it. One thing to know for Goldens is that the puppy and carrier have to weigh under 20 pounds together. Golden puppies are a larger breed and grow quickly, so we'll check your puppy's size on the call. The puppy also needs a health certificate from a licensed vet, and flights can shift with the weather.

About Our Golden Retriever Breeder Serving West Virginia

The Puppy Lodge is owned by the Nisley family, who have raised dogs for more than 13 years from their five-acre farm in Coshocton County. Our Golden litters are raised by a closed network of local breeders near the farm who work only with Puppy Lodge dogs and follow our testing and breeding standards. Both parents of every Golden pairing are genetically tested and health screened, including hip and elbow evaluations, and we weigh structure closely since this is a large breed with known joint risk.

Golden puppies get daily outdoor activity from early on to build lean muscle, because the breed keeps growing until 18 to 24 months. Our vet from Danville Veterinary Clinic checks the dogs and litters every week. Being this close to West Virginia also means you can visit by appointment and meet the mother before your puppy comes home. You can learn more about the breed in our complete guide to Golden Retrievers.

FAQs Of West Virginia Families Adopting Golden Retrievers

Q: Is a Golden Retriever a good fit for an outdoorsy West Virginia family?

A: Goldens need 60 to 90 minutes of activity every day, and they love to swim, fetch, and hike. The rivers, lakes, and trails around West Virginia give them plenty of places to burn off energy. Just go easy on long, steep hikes and hard running while your puppy is young, since those joints are still developing until 18 to 24 months.

Q: What does the three-year health guarantee cover?

A: Our written guarantee covers genetic and congenital conditions for three years, including hip and elbow problems. Health testing the parents lowers the chances of many conditions common in Goldens, but it can't promise a dog will stay healthy for life. Goldens also have a higher rate of certain cancers than most breeds, and screening does not rule that risk out. If you want to talk through Golden health in more detail, give us a call.

Q: How much do Golden Retrievers shed?

A: A lot, and all year. Their double coat sheds steadily and gets heavier during the spring and fall coat changes. Plan on brushing two to three times a week, and daily during those heavy seasons. If your Golden spends time in the creek or the lake, dry its ears afterward and check them weekly, since the drop ears hold moisture.

Q: Can a Golden Retriever stay home alone while I'm at work?

A: Goldens are very people-focused, and a full workday alone is hard on them. If you're gone eight to ten hours, a dog walker, doggy daycare, or a midday visit will make a big difference. We start crate training and early neurological stimulation before your puppy goes home, which gives it a head start, but alone time still needs to be built up slowly at home.

Q: Can my Golden Retriever puppy be registered with the AKC?

A: Yes. The Golden Retriever is recognized by the American Kennel Club, and a Golden puppy from The Puppy Lodge can be registered with the AKC. If you have questions about registration or anything else, call or text us at 330-790-5007.
